Grange-over-Sands

The official Grange-over-Sands town web site covers both tourism and community information about this South Cumbrian town. Grange-over-Sands is situated in the Lake District Peninsulas just south of the English Lake District National Park and borders onto Morecambe Bay. Grange, as its more commonly known, is popular as a more peaceful seaside resort where visitors come to unwind, enjoy the sea air and wander around the traditional shops.

There is a full range of accommodation on offer from small bed & breakfast establishments, larger hotels including the Grange Hotel and self-catering acommodation.

Hawkshead Village

A tourists guide to Hawkshead Village situated close to Ambleside in the English Lake District. The village settlement dates back to the 10th Century and there are many historical reminants including the 15th Century church which includes wall paintings dating back to 1860. The village remains fairly unchanged for the last century with small English traditional cottages and peaceful atmosphere.

Something that is less well known about Hawkshead is its literary connections with both William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Wordsworth attended the Grammar School in Hawkshead between 1778 and 1787, and today visitors can still see the desk on which he carved his name. Beatrix Potter lived at Hill Top, Near Sawrey, just two miles from Hawkshead and this house along with her husbands office in Hawkshead are now both open to the public.

Lake District Peninsulas Tourist Information

The official site for the Lake District Peninsulas tourism guide covering Southern Cumbria just below the English Lake District. The guide provides a facinating insight into this often forgotten and therefore more peaceful region of Cumbria with information on the towns in the region including:

Barrow-in-Furness: Well known for its shipping heritage and smugglers.
Ulverston: Former home of Stan Laurel, half of the comedy duo Laurel & Hardy
Cartmel: Home of the annual Cartmel races & Cartmel Priory
Grange-over-Sands: A peaceful seaside resort popular due to its clean air off Morecambe Bay
